When I was 14 I was diagnosed with imbalanced hormones (later discovered to be PMDD, I recommend looking into it). Because of this, I had completely random period cycles, incredibly painful cramps, and my mood swings were violent. I was either manically happy or horrifically depressed within the span of a few minutes. My doctor prescribed me the pill, explaining that it would balance out my hormones and regulate my period.
One day at school, my pills fell out of my bag and my friends asked about it. I said it was the pill. They all looked at me like I just said the most scandalous secret. The one thing about that interaction that sticks with me though is that one friend said: “but aren’t you a lesbian?” I was so shocked by the question that I literally had no idea how to respond other than huh???????? And they said the pill was only for girls who don’t want to get pregnant. I got irrationally upset about it and kind of just. Shut down after it. I knew I wasn’t going around having sex on the daily, but just saying I took the pilk was enough for them to make that conclusion.
This is why I think they should explain the other purposes of the pill during health talks/lessons. It’s actually common for people to be on the pill for reasons other than pregnancy. I think about how embarrassing that interaction was every time I take my pill and hope no other child/teen has to go through that experience.
"People shouldn't post about how the contraceptive pill can be prescribed for non-contraceptive reasons because it's sex negative" feels like a take that can only come from people who don't realise just how young some people end up being prescribed the pill
Like, fine, you, person in your twenties, might be comfortable being like "this is the pill I take to fuck without getting pregnant", but I don't think it's sex negative for a thirteen-year-old who has been prescribed it for debilitating period pain to not want to have to hide their medication from their classmates on an overnight school trip because their classmates think that the only reason anyone would take it is that they're sexually active

today in insane anti-intellectualism: I just saw a post about how aspiring healthcare practitioners shouldn't take classes in biology and chemistry because those subjects are useless and bad. ????
#the op was like “they should have to study literature and the human condition like ME”#and it's like. hmmmm. I can understand where you're coming from here buddy but maybe think for a hot second#about why aspiring doctors have to take biology 101 before they can jump right into microbial genetics and viral pathogenesis or whatever#like. these classes build on each other. you absolutely need a basic understanding of college-level bio and chem before you can do anything#as someone who is very passionate about both science and writing#(I am getting a degree in microbiology and medical HUMANITIES. because I LIKE HUMANITIES)#I hate the rhetoric that certain STEM subjects are lame boring loser classes for closed-minded idiots who can't see the beauty in the world#there is so much beauty in biology and chemistry and physics! the universe is so big and weird and fascinating#but you'll never see that if you have the mentality that YOUR favorite subjects are the Only Ones That Matter Ever#for the record (as someone who's taken a lot of STEM and humanities classes recently) both STEM and humanities majors do this#and it's obnoxious no matter where it's coming from

What’s your beef with the Northern Pike?
I'm so glad you asked.
The northern pike (Esox lucius) is native to the United States (Alaska, Midwest, and Northeastern USA specifically) and Canada, however, it was introduced to many other parts of the US as a sportfish, including parts of Alaska where the northern pike do not occur naturally due to the state's geography. They were also introduced to some places illegally due to some sportsmen trying to establish new populations to angle.
(USGS 2019)
Northern pike breed incredibly quickly and out compete many native fish for resources. They are also predators and eat many native fish as well, causing steep declines in their populations. Northern pike have no real predators, so there is nothing to stop their populations from getting out of control. This is especially a problem in Washington and Alaska where they add additional pressure the already struggling salmonid populations. They are INCREDIBLY hard to remove from the ecosystem once established and are kind of a death sentence for a lot of ecosystems.
If you happen to be fishing in an area with invasive northern pike, do the ecosystem a favor and take that shit out!! Despite what some people might say, they're actually pretty good eating if you fillet them right! There are tons of recipes online if you do get your hands on one. My suggestion is to make fish tacos out of them 😋
TL;DR: Northern pike are very invasive in many parts of the United States and decimate ecosystems.
If anyone is curious about reading further into the topic, here are some resources to look into/the sources I got my information from!
California’s Invaders: Northern Pike (CDFW)
Invasive Pike in Southcentral Alaska (ADFG)
Northern pike (Esox lucius) (WDFW)
Nonindigenous Aquatic Species - Northern Pike (USGS)
Northern Pike remains top invasive species in Columbia River system (The Columbian)
The Pike Problem (Northwest Power and Conservation Council)
Northern pike can wreak havoc on waterways. Some Maine fishermen still welcome them (Maine Public)

I have long hair and paint my nails and wear dangly earrings and I am still a man!!! I am soft and gentle and kind and I enjoy feminine things and I am still a man!!! It doesn’t matter what people look like or dress like or sound like, treat people as they want to be treated.
Around my sophomore year of highschool I got fed up with being misgendered, so I cut all my hair off and wore boring monotone clothing. It didn’t work. I changed my mannerisms and everything, but I was still misgendered regularly. The only thing that changed is people tell me how glad they were that I wasn’t one of those trans people.
If someone doesn’t respect your identity as a whole, the way you present yourself isn’t going to change that. Assholes are always going to be assholes, so you might as well do what makes you happy.
I wear colorful clothing now and I grew my hair out again and I don’t tone down my emotions to be more “masculine” anymore. I’m the most confident I’ve been in a long time, and I’m still a man!
crazy how people assume trans guys dont know if we had short naturally coloured hair and a basic style we'd "pass better." "you want tips on how to pass? no more fun piercings, jewelry, anything feminine, dyed hair, nail polish or nice things for you!" thanks but I choose joy and whimsy x
#sorry for the long ass ramble lmao#this is a subject I am very passionate about#find people who are going to love and respect you no matter how you present#and fuck transmeds

The phrase to look for if you want to dig into this topic more is "non-human personhood". I wrote an essay on the subject fairly recently [link], but to summarize the relevant bits for this: The state of being a "living thing worthy of basic respect" (to borrow your words) is best summarized as "personhood", which is distinct from "being human". Every human is a person, but not all persons are human. There's long-running debates about where exactly the line between "person" and "not a person" lies, so there's no shortage of material to read through if you want to dive in. (There are even well-reasoned arguments that certain non-living beings, like true Artificial Intelligence, should be considered to have personhood.)
The reason that "dehumanization" is the word usually used for the idea of stripping someone of their personhood is because society at large treats "human" and "person" as synonyms, when (in certain senses) "human" could be considered a sub-set of "person". Changing that general view is a long-term goal that will require a fair bit of cooperation among advocates for non-human personhood. It'll probably be a difficult task (as with most large-scale social change), but one that many people have been passionate about for a long time, so you're not alone there. It's just a matter of knowing what to look for in order to find each other.
begging folks to understand that dehumanization actually means a removal of basic respect. the “human” is a stand-in for “living thing worthy of basic respect”. and i agree, that really isn’t an ideal thing when considering the nonhuman, but i truly dont know of a better word that could be easily understood. i do have many words to say about how fucked up it is that dehumanization is so tied to animalizing someone or making them into an object—as if such things do not also deserve respect?—but dehumanization is not synonymous with those things
#If it isn't obvious#this is a subject I am very passionate about#These are important conversations to have#both between individuals and as a community#I can definitely encourage writing those many words you've got on the ties between dehumanization and animalizing#The more we talk about these things#the more visible the conversation can become#and the more people we can (hopefully) get thinking about what it means to be a person

What is your collage major, Bread? Is it anything art related?
My major is Environmental Geoscience. I want to make a difference in environmental management and conservation. There is always a need for people in geoscience-y jobs 🌿💚
Art is a close hobby of mine, but I don't see it as a career. I like to take my art slow and only draw when I feel like it.
#I don't talk too much about Geoscience on here. But it is my favorite subject. I am a huge animal lover and environmental activist#I am a very passionate person about it hehe#bread#ask stuff#environmental geoscience

I wasn't going to talk about beacuse I'm new to Bridgerton/Polin tumblr and the internet is full of Jess Brownell supporters who think it's okay to cyberbully anyone who criticises her - it's not, by the way...
BUT
If people think Colin Bridgerton would cheat, it's most likely because of the way Jess Brownell's decided to tell Polin's love story.
I remember an interview I've read (before season 3 was released) in wich she talked about "Penelope's glow up". It was an Entertainment Weekly back in december and the interviewer said that "penelope's wardrobe change was a huge part of Romancing Mister Bridgerton - wich is not in the book she just starsts dressing the way she wants because she's 28 and a spinister and her mother gives up on her prospects - and Jess Brownell doesn't correct this fact. She says she's "aware" of this topic (glow up) and that she's palying with it as in their world "her wardrobe change doesn't fix her confidence magicaly". The point is: Penelope's wardrobe changes doesn't change her status in the book either(!) If we're being honest, people (the gentleman of the ton) pay way more attention to her new style in the show.
And that gave some viewers the impression that Colin, too, only saw her after her glow up/wardrobe change/new style. Wich isn't at all true! In fact, when they meet again in their book and he complements her dress she says "it's not yellow", to wich he replys "so it's not", because he didn't care(!!) And his feelins for her are not attached to the way she dresses(!!)
If you asked me, i'd say Colin has been falling in love with Pen through all their friendship. However, the consensus seems to be that people believe his romantic feelings started with the kiss - wich is totally fine. The thing is that right after their first kiss (the best ever book-to-show adaptation of a scene) enters Debling. And the the idea some non Polin fans have that Colin may only be interested because she now has a suitor.
Both scenarios, plus the decision to not involve Colin in Whistledown plot, making him not only ask for her hand in marriage but have sex with her before finding out - when book Colin is the first one to know about Pen being Whistledown and asks her to marrying him after he discovers it - leading to the most infamous line of it all: the "entrapment line".
What I'm saying is: the way things were put out, and most specifically, the order in what things were put out in the show, gave some people the impression that Colin's love for Penelope isn't strong when it couldn't be fourther than the truth.
Colin Bridgerton loved Penelope before being in love with her. He is canonically the first man to ever have a conversation to her, the man who saw her and show her kindness when not even her family did. The man who danced with her at his mother ball - in a specific situation he dances with her after Benedict leaves her alone in the dance floor because he just feel in love with Sophie and them """fights""" Ben for it. He discovers she's Lady Whistledown because he is concerned with her safety. He goes to her when he is concerned Eloise may be Whistledown. He fights with her opon finding she's Whistledown because of her safety. He holds her hand when she panicks after Cressida claims to be Whistldown. He notices her witt and humour and how it it's only reserved for him and and other people she's confortable with. He's willing to gave a chance to publish his writing for being married to Whistledown because being by her side is the most important thing to him.
There's an actually quote in the book: "maybe, this, then, is the definition of love. When you wanted someone, needed her, adored her still, even when you are utterly furious and quiet ready to tye her to a bed just to quit her from going out and making more trouble". Wich to me represents his feelings for Penelope in the carriage scene in chapiter 13.
And I know a lot people hate - or very much dislike - the Bridgerton Books and most of all the behavior of the man in the books but the thing is they're hitorical romances. They take place in the early XIX century and are written to resemble that time. We view this books as fantasy because that society and costumes seem to far away from our society and social context.
The fantasy is that this man - rakes who fuck around and control a society where woman have basically no rights or voice - fall in love. And find their one true love. There's no cheating. It's a happly ever after. No Bridgerton man will ever cheat and if you didn't understand it, you didn't get the books at all.
#my commentary#bridgerton#polin#bridgerton season 3#bridgerton books#romancing mister bridgerton#book lore i guess#colin bridgerton#penelope featherington#polin's first kiss#first kiss#carriage scene#stay scene#i may come back to it but right know i used every single drop of english i had in me#you're alowed to desagree but if you think you're entilted to bully and or think you're a bigger/better fan you're not#no bridgerton man will ever cheat#if it's not obvious i am very passionate with this subject#colin haters don't aprouch#i love you colin bridgerton#i could talk more about it but this is already too long#feel free to add your point of view based on demi/ace colin i'd like to read#you're not a bigger or better fan for thinking everything was perfect and beyond criticism#i love polin

with the wc currently on and lots of players' families n children being around i think it would be nice for everyone 2 please be mindful of sharing the childrens' faces on here. i know people probably don't always think about it and many of the players share their childrens' faces themselves but imo there is really no reason to share a childs' face when u don't know them, especially when they/their family arent aware of being photographed. for example i just saw a pic of pickford's son on here and i know him and his wife deliberately blur his face in photos on socials to give him that privacy. i know no one does it w bad intentions, it's just something to be aware of when sharing pics of the players and their families ❤️
#this is just a subject i am very aware of and passionate about because of how often children r exposed to social media and the public eye#when they cant consent to it bcus theyre children!#long post#wc 22

Y'know, I ended up rereading some of the series to make something, and I'm now starting to realize that Blaine is massive d***.
Even if you exclude the gaslighting and beating of Frederick, he's a total jerk to literally everyone. He basically bullies Dandridge (I'm probably spelling that wrong), because he has a crush on a girl. He's really egotistical, and has this holier than thou attitude with almost everyone, including his own family. He is a smug d*** in the worst way possible, and I'm saying that as a proud smug jerk, so you know it's bad. He lectures everyone else, and his inflated ego just makes me angry. I have no idea how I didn't notice this on the first read, but I'm noticing it now, and I'm pissed off that this borderline narcissistic behavior gets encouraged by everyone around him for almost the whole series. You could say that the recital was him comeuppance, but after it he gets comforted by Maria like he isn't a total b****. He's just so vindictive, he has an inflated ego the size of Jupiter, and he treats everyone around him like inferiors.
And again, this is almost completely excluding his relationship with Frederick. His holier than thou attitude is blown up to monstrous proportions whenever he talks with him. He beats Frederick, calls him names, and gaslights him, while still thinking that he's some perfect angel and that Frederick is at fault for everything. He's so hypocritical with Frederick, saying horrible things to his face, and then hitting him for saying something remotely similar about Gwen. He rats Frederick to their father, who he's said himself that he doesn't feel same around, for literally no reason other than spite. He treats his own brother like a god damn cockroach and it's encouraged by the narrative. Considering all that's happening to Frederick over a single insult, I'm franky offended by how Blaine and narcissistic, self centered attitude, not only goes completely unpunished, but gets encouraged. Later in there series, when they reconnect, there is no change whatsoever from Blaine. Sure he starts kinda thinking of Frederick better, but he doesn't try to treat him any better. I mean, he doesn't treat Frederick like a cockroach anymore, but he really doesn't treat him much better. He still talked to Frederick like he's some inferior being that he has to push along. And Frederick is just expected to play along. Frederick did agree to the marriages, but I think I know how Blaine would have reacted if he didn't. Blaine would have forced two LITTERAL CHILDREN to get married and spend the rest of their lives chained together, because he's Blaine, and Blaine is the only important person on the planet and everyone are inferior being looking up to their god in hopes of guidance. "Oh, who cares that they're 17? Let's get married!" "Oh, who cares that Frederick is afraid of Gwen and flinching when she makes sudden movements? Gwen is lovely and Frederick deserves to get beaten and coerced into child marriage by his own family, and this is absolute and right because I am Blaine and I think so and I an always right and Frederick is always wrong because I am a perfect angel sent from heaven and Frederick is just a dog at my heal."
In conclusion: BLAINE IS A FUCKING BITCH
#cursed princess club#cpc blaine#prince blaine#sorry for all the swears#i am just#very passionate about this subject#I'm not upset that Blaine's a jerk#that could just be his character#I'm upset that it's encouraged#Everyone tells Frederick about how much his siblings live him#and tell him that he doesn't deserve siblings like that#and his sibling treat him like a freaking slave#and then Frederick is expected to comform to what they want#with no character development on their part#and nobody even acknowledges that Frederick was completely justified in hating them#or at least Blaine#his attitude with Frederick is disgusting#and nobody even acknowledges it#like it's right#like treating your little brother like garbage is just “goofy character trait” and not disgusting#“haha LOL. Blaine just inderectly coerced a 17 year old child into marrying soneone that he was genuinly unconfortable around!”#“What a goofy sibling dynamic thay have!”#pissed off

hiiiii moth hii. ur my resident vampire wereworlf mutual ur like my ta in these studies in a way so with this in mind i have a quastion for you. a query even. what happens when a werewolf bites a vampire or vice versa. can u get half vampire half werewolves. what is your wisdom
SOAP hi hello oh this is a good one okay. so. if vampirism and lycanthropy can be transmitted through bite, then we can use fake-fantasy-science to assume that they have some function similar to a virus, injecting new information into a cell and multiplying that way. using That, we can assume that if someone who already has one ‘virus’ were exposed to the other one, there would be some sort of viral interference. i believe this would take place in the form of superinfection suppression, where, quote: “persistently infected cells hold off infections by unrelated viruses” (thank u wikipedia). so basically (according to fake fantasy science that i can bs however i want because this is fake fantasy), if you have all this werewolf juice in you already and someone introduces a new smaller amount of vampire juice, the werewolf juice is gonna fuckin beat up the vampire juice and it won’t be able to get a foothold and survive.
so if a vampire got bit by a werewolf or vise versa, i think they’d just get sick for a week or two while their body fights off the ‘infection.’ maybe in some rare once-in-a-blue-moon case you could find them coinfecting! but 99.9% of the time. probably just results in a bad fever

what if you were a girl trying to change her major and you wanted to take a class but your schedule from hell said no. and you were also on the verge of a mental breakdown
#i want. to change my major#but I don't know how much I will like this new major and I am hesitant to just jump right in and start it#so I was like ah I should take a class from the new major along with my old major classes#so if I like my current/old major I can keep going with it#and if I like the new major then I actually know#that way I'm not going in blind and risking hating it especially this new major I'm trying is a difficult major#but the only way to take this specific class is to drop the class with my favorite teacher in it :(#i don't even know. if I like my major or not. Like maybe I just do. Idk I'm like. It's okay but I'm not passionate about it#I don't know what the fuck I wanna do#i could take this other class at 9am that's super gross I guess#but then that leaves me with a single hour lecture in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday#and I know me. there's a very high chance I will just skip it and sleep in#Or I could just continue with my current classes#But then either I A. Do the sample next semester which is bad bc if I already hate my major I don't wanna keep doing it next semester#Or B. I immediately switch my major and go in blind which I don't wanna do either in case I hate that too!#Also issue with the 9am class: it's a lot of calc and physics and I don't. Know physics lmao#the class where I have to drop my fav teacher has subjects I'm a lot more familiar/comfortable with so I'd rather do that#i really like my teacher tho she's my fav :(#and my only other option besides the fav teacher is a mystery professor so idk if she's any good#sigh.#either I continue with current classes#drop the fav teacher to get into the class I want and risk having a sucky teacher for that other second class#or I just take my chances with the 9am and hope my lack of physics doesn't completely fail me#I don't know what to do my schedule sucks so much#hnfffffffgggggg#i really wanna take the new major class but I don't know if I want to drop the other class with my fav teacher#this is super vague and confusing but I'm trying not to give out too many details#i have like. A week and a half to decide and I'm super stressed about it so not fun for me#i might try and find out what the other teacher is like beforehand but I just worry#lilac post

realized ricky is not only canonically polyam, but rep for polyam survivors who are abused for being poly, and i am having a lot of feelings about that which i plan to write up a post about but also wow in hindsight it put some shit from an abusive ex-friend into perspective.
#whosebaby talks#SDMItag#abuse cw#polyphobia cw#there is just. still a lot that i am unpacking about how deeply abusive her muses were in ~healthy relationships~ with mine#which was really fucked up to put me through by itself but was also *deeply* telling about our friendship in general#a major aspect being how she constantly went back and forth between being very clear that she was repulsed and disgusted by my queerness#and pretending she never said that; while playing olympic-level gymnastics for any possible bullshit alternate explanation she could find#and i'm just like. in hindsight it has become deeply cathartic to write/engage with stories where the polyphobic abuser#is openly and intentionally and maliciously abusive; and framed as such#after the relentless gaslighting and queerphobia of ~healthy OTP relationship~ where a poly muse i had put a lot of myself into#brought up the subject of whether his partner would be alright with him pursuing a relationship over feelings he was Just Starting to Have#and wanted to get ahead of things and ask the moment it became relevant; specifically because he knew the partner had jealousy issues#and the poly person Absolutely Fucking Daring to Have Even the Beginnings of a Crush at All Without His Permission#sent the partner into a massive wailing nauseous spiraling self-harming world-ending inconsolable breakdown#and going practically catatonic with jealousy and ~pain and betrayal~#and the ~healthy resolution~ was the poly muse apologizing profusely for it; comforting him; and promising it would never ever happen again#'he has BPD and jealousy issues and it hurts him sooooo so bad 🥺' i hope otto cheats on him with ten people and then dumps his ass#BPD doesn't make you abusive or polyphobic even if you're mono#and it's so fucking gross that her non-BPD-having ass used pwBPD as an excuse for passionately hating poly people#but yeah there was just. so so much more horrible shit along those lines just In General with those characters alone#and it was constantly dressed up in a veneer of ~healthy relationships uwu~ and in hindsight that's another reason#i have such an extremely strong reaction to 'no see this dynamic is good and home-grown organic wholesome and healthy uwu'#'[most abusive/bigoted/etc shit you have ever seen in your life]'#and why it is honestly such a fucking relief to be able to engage with a dynamic where the abuse is mask-off and openly Intended to Harm#just call me a slur and get it over with etc#anyway it's just. a Lot.#that person was a fucking nightmare and writing with them was a fucking nightmare#last i heard they were part of that fandom's resident anti crowd and mocking/harassing disabled people for dietary limitations lol#and i'm glad they're out of my life and that apparently i've got enough distance from them to be comfortable processing it through fiction
